Style Reduction

Use this tool to tell the AI model what to avoid doing!

The Style Reduction tool is Udio's form of "negative prompting", essentially where you tell the AI "avoid doing this":

Style Reduction is very handy if you're working with a genre with some common elements you want to avoid for some reason

The Style Reduction is handled via a typing input box. The model only accepts recognised tags (the same ones it recommends automatically in the Core Prompt Box) and to have it selected properly, you have to start to type the tag, and then select it from the drop down menu. If you don't do this, the text isn't "locked in" and the model may completely ignore what you're telling it. For the same reason, custom tags or text in here isn't terribly effective.

I don't want a male vocalist, so i begin to type "Male Vocalist" and the option appears. I'll click it to lock it in.
Having clicked male vocalist and a few other things I don't want, you can see they're now highlighted in grey in the typed section, indicating they are "locked in" for style reduction.

Style Reduction like many advanced controls in Udio, is something with a huge amount of potential and can lead to some very interesting sounds if used precisely with specific prompts which would normally bring the thing you're reducing. Outside of that, use it to exercise control over what instruments or vocal flavours and song moods you want.

Like many of the options in Udio, Style Reduction is best thought of as a strong recommendation, not a command. Sometimes the AI will obey and sometimes it will not, depending on the clip and prompt. You may need to adjust other areas of your prompt to have the reduction work effectively.
